A.C
This symbol represents an alternating current.  A wave has a positive half cycle and a negative half cycle.

 D.C
This is the symbol that represents straight line electricity.

 GROUND OR EARTH
This is the symbol used to identify the ground terminal.  It can be used as a zero potential reference point from where the current is measured.  It is also for electrical shock protection.

 RESISTOR
A resistor is used to reduce the current flow in the circuit.  In addition to this symbol, the type symbol that draws a box over a straight line is also used.  Variable and adjust resistors and thermal and preset resistors have special symbols.

 SWITCH
It is the element used to break the current and allow the circuit to resume current flow.  This is the SPST (single-pole single-throw) toggle switch symbol, but SPDT, pushbutton, dip, and relay switches are also used.

 CAPACITOR
This is the symbol of a capacitor which has two terminals.  A curved plate is used to indicate the negative side and a straight plate is used to indicate the positive pin.

 FUSE
A fuse is a device that protects electrical circuits by preventing a certain amount of current from flowing through the circuit.  A fuse is made of a material that melts quickly.

  INDUCTOR
An inductor is also called a coil or reactor.  Coils store energy in a magnetic field or flux.

 TRANSFORMER
A transformer consists of two or more coils connected by magnetic induction.  A transformer is used to step up and step down the voltage in an AC circuit while maintaining the frequency.  They have two parts primary and secondary.

MOTOR
A motor is a device that can convert electrical energy into mechanical energy.

 CELL
Cells are represented by a star symbol with a pair of parallel lines with a blue contrast.  The larger line will be positive and the smaller line will be negative.

 BATTERY
A battery is made up of multiple cells.

 LAMP
This is the symbol that represents the source of light.

 LOUDSPEAKER / HORN
Speakers or horns that emit sound are shown in circuits using this symbol.

AMMETER
An ammeter is a device used to measure the current in a circuit.

 VOLT METER
A voltmeter is a device that measures the potential difference between two points in a circuit.  Two points in the circuit are connected in parallel.
